Help honor the men and women from Pennsylvania who paid the ultimate sacrifice as a result of the Vietnam War. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund virtual Wall of Faces in Washington, D.C. still needs to locate 57 photos from 13 different counties in Pennsylvania to put a face with a name. Fort Indiantown Gap Hosts Division-Level Warfighter Exercise:
Approximately 4,500 service members from the Army and Air National Guards, U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Army Reserves participated in Warfighter 18-1 at Fort Indiantown Gap from mid-September to mid-October. Read more.
 
Pennsylvania Troops To Be Deployed To Middle East:
More soldiers from all over the state are heading overseas. Approximately 500 Army National Guard troops are set to be deployed to the Middle East in January, 2018. Read more.
 
Maj. Gen. Tony Carrelli To Speak At Veterans Day Social:
Pennsylvania's Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Tony Carrelli will be the Keynote speaker for a veterans recognition event on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Park Social Hall. The event is sponsored by State Rep. Judy Ward and American Legion Post 516 in Hollidaysburg. Documentary “Project 22” Coming To BC3 At Lawrence Crossing:
On Nov. 14 Butler County Community College at Lawrence Crossing will offer a free public screening of “Project 22,” a documentary created by two young combat veterans and one that heightens awareness about post-traumatic stress disorder and suicide among those who served in recent wars. Another Way To Welcome Them Home:
When the veterans who move into the City Mission’s Patriot House of Southwestern PA enter their new rooms, they will be met with the comforts of home – a place to keep their belongings, a dresser and a bed. But it’s the items atop the beds that will perhaps provide the most comfort. Members of the Martha Washington Quilters Guild created a quilt for every one of the 22 beds in the homeless veteran’s facility that’s scheduled to open next summer – plus a few extras. Read more.

Expectations Remain High For Veterans Marathon:
Al and Candice Lockard felt quite confident setting the lofty goal of raising $25,000 for the Indiana County Veterans Assistance Fund in their first year directing the Indiana First Bank Veterans Marathon, Half-Marathon and Relay, which will be held Nov. 5, 2017 at Saylor Park, Black Lick, PA (Indiana County). The longtime members of the Indiana Road Runners Club didn’t hesitate to set the bar so high simply because they noticed the unmistakable outpouring of support for the event from area runners, businesses and armed service vets in the last five years. Thousands of people throughout the Philadelphia region don’t know where they will be sleeping at any given night. Homelessness can happen to anyone for a variety of reasons. Many times, a little bit of help can get these individuals back on their feet. That’s exactly what Help USA is doing in Pennsylvania. Since 1998, this nonprofit organization has invested millions into the housing and supportive services necessary to help homeless and low-income Pennsylvanians become and remain self-reliant. Hundreds Welcome Back Vietnam Veterans From Visit To D.C. Memorial:
On a damp and drizzly morning in October, nearly 100 Vietnam War veterans, accompanied by guardians, volunteers, photographers, medical assistance and Honor Flight staff, departed The Porch at the Lamb Tavern, headed for Washington, D.C., for a day of honor. While the purpose of the trip was for the veterans to visit their memorials in Washington, D.C., the most exciting parts came within 10 miles of Springfield, PA (Delaware County) and upon return to The Porch at the Lamb. Mom Of Fort Cherry Graduate Forms Blue Star Group:
The Southwestern Pennsylvania Blue Star Mothers of America became the newest national chapter at a ceremony presided over by Yvonne Darragh, founding officer and chapter president. Darragh, who grew up in a Gold Star family, founded the chapter in honor of her daughter, Second Lt. Margo Darragh, a 2012 graduate of Fort Cherry High School and 2016 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. Read more.
 
Pocono Pub Presents Check For Homeless Veterans:
The Original Pocono Pub and Grill presented a $3,045 check donation to Operation Chillout, a New Jersey-based organization working to help homeless U.S. military veterans. The money came from Pocono Pub’s business profits. Operation Chillout members report their organization has rescued 75 homeless veterans this year. Of the 75, 10 were homeless in Monroe County. Quilts Of Valor Bestowed On Chambersburg Veterans:
Jeffrey Cutchall received the Bronze Star and two National Defense Service medals for his time in the U.S. Army, but on Thursday night, he wanted to draw attention to the service of several civilians. Inside the Human Engineering Research Laboratories (HERL) at the University of Pittsburgh (Allegheny County), visitors may notice architectural details that are out of the ordinary. Large doorways that allow wheelchairs to pass through easily. Diffused lighting that minimizes the chance of headaches for those with traumatic brain injuries. Flooring that doesn’t hinder wheelchair movement.
