Non-Discrimination Policy

It is the policy of Westmoreland County to provide all current and prospective employees with equal opportunity in employment without discrimination on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, ancestry, religion, disability, medical condition, gender, height, weight, physical characteristics, marital status, age, sexual orientation, organizational affiliation, disabled veteran status, or status as a veteran of the Vietnam era (except when sex, age, disability, or medical condition is a bonafide occupational qualification). This non-discrimination policy applies to decisions affecting recruitment, selection, placement, assignment, training, transfer, promotion, evaluation, discipline, termination, retirement, compensation, benefits and all other aspects of employment.

Westmoreland County is committed to providing a professional work atmosphere for all employees. Any employee who commits an act of discrimination against another employee will be subject to appropriate sanctions, up to and including dismissal, depending on the nature and severity of the misconduct. It is unlawful to retaliate or take reprisal in any way against anyone who has articulated any concern about discrimination, whether that concern relates to discrimination against the individual raising the concern or against another individual.

Through the establishment and implementation of this policy, it is the intent of Westmoreland County to actively support and comply with the following laws and regulations: The Equal Pay Act of 1963; Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (as amended by the Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972); the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (as amended in 1978); the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; the Civil Rights Act of 1991; the Constitution of the United States of America and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Constitution; and any other state or federal statutes or regulations dealing with equal employment opportunity requirement(s).

If you believe that you have been discriminated against or harassed in violation of this non-discrimination policy, you are encouraged to report that unlawful conduct so that appropriate action may be taken to stop any future discrimination or harassment. The provisions of the sexual harassment policy regarding reporting, investigating and guarantees of protection from reprisal or retaliation are equally applicable to this policy. Westmoreland County will not tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind of its employees.

If you have any questions, regarding this non-discrimination policy or the sexual harassment policy, please feel free to contact the Human Resources Department.
